Bear Spray Disposal Event in Glasgow and Havre

(Glasgow) – Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks offices are hosting a bear spray disposal event throughout September as part of Bear Aware Month.State wildlife officials warn that expired, damaged, or partially used bear spray canisters pose a safety risk and should not be thrown in standard household trash. Bear spray generally has a shelf life of three to four years, and residents are encouraged to check their canisters for expiration dates.

In Region 6, residents can drop off their old canisters at two designated locations. In Havre, the FWP field office on Highway 2 East will accept canisters Monday through Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m, and n Glasgow, items are accepted Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the FWP Region 6 Headquarters on Airport Road. Participants who drop off old canisters during September can also enter a drawing to win a bear spray storage canister.
