The Havre Fire department is facing many dangers beyond fires.
The fire station has tested positive for heavy metals and asbestos, and their bay where firemen park and run the fire trucks lacks ventilation.
A new test is hopefully coming soon to determine the dangers of the diesel exhaust fumes in the fire station.
Fire Chief Nathan Courtnage explains the details.
“They also talked about looking into diesel exposures from the fire trucks not having any ventilation out there in the bay. That test hasn’t been done yet, and I think it is going to be done in the future here so we would look forward to those as well.”-Nathan Courtnage
Fire Chief Courtnage explains why not having exhaust ventilation is a problem beyond the safety concern.
“It’s a NFPA code that you have ventilation systems built within your station, or on your apparatus, or any way to get exhaust away from the living quarters and from the building.” -Nathan Courtnage
