HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Some needy Havre-area families will be receiving gifts and a meal thanks to the Havre Salvation Army’s Adopt-a-Family Program. Social Services Director Trina Crawford says that they pick families that are having a rough time or have children that have aged-out of the Giving Tree Program.
“The Adopt-a-Family Program is when businesses, individuals, churches, clubs, groups can actually adopt a whole family instead of just the children. This is a great opportunity to go out and do some shopping for the whole family, which is really a big thing because there’s a lot of families that miss out on Christmas with older children.”
Crawford says that there are many things that might qualify a family to be chosen for this program, which provides gifts for teenagers and parents.
“Some of the past things that have come about is a father got laid off this time of the year. I’ve actually had where a close family member died right before Christmas. We pick families, when we do the Adopt-a-Family, off of the list, but we make sure that they’re families that are having a little rougher time.”
The Salvation Army is also running their Red Kettle Fundraiser this season, which is their main fundraiser for the year.
