CUSTER COUNTY, Mont. (NMB) – A 63-year-old Ashland man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning after allegedly driving under the influence and in the wrong direction on I-94 in Custer County.
The Montana Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred at 12:20 AM at mile marker 160 of the westbound lanes, when an eastbound 1996 Ford F150 failed to swerve around a westbound commercial motor vehicle while approaching a curve.
The vehicles collided and the F150 spun to rest on the shoulder. The commercial motor vehicle came to rest at the roadside fence and caught fire.
The driver of the F150, who was not wearing a seatbelt and is believed to have been intoxicated, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the commercial vehicle, a 30-year-old man from Richmond Hills, New York, was transported to a local hospital. He was wearing a seatbelt.
