HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen has announced the appointment of Dirk Johnson as State Fire Marshal and Dr. Walter Kemp as Montana’s Chief Medical Examiner.
Johnson has been serving as acting State Fire Marshal since August 2021. Prior to that, he was Deputy Fire Marshal beginning in October 2020. He has also previously served as Fire Marshal for the city of Great Falls.
Kemp will take over as Chief Medical Examiner in May after Dr. Rob Kurtzman announced his retirement. Kemp has been Deputy State Medical Examiner and spent five years as an associate professor of pathology at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
