FORT BENTON, Mont. (NMB) – The 2019 General Elections are a few weeks away and New Media Broadcasters is profiling candidates in contested races.
There is one contested race in Fort Benton for the Ward 2 councilmember. Challenger Thad Axtman will be taking on incumbent Terri Baker. Axtman is the Radiology Manager at the Missouri River Medical Center, and his main issues are the street bond issue on the ballot and the retention of City police.
“I know that the city streets are desperately in need of repair and fixing. The other one I feel is retention of city police force. It seems that we get some people in place and then they seem to either move on or go up to into maybe County, or into other areas.”
Axtman says he can bring new ideas to the Council.
“I feel that I could bring a different viewpoint. I’m pretty good at listening to everybody else and trying to bring several ideas, that are sound ideas, to the table and a different viewpoint, maybe, from the youth of the community. I’m not super young, but I feel that I’ve got a good finger on what some of the younger people in the community might like to see go on with our town.”
Axtman’s opponent, Terri Baker, declined an interview with New Media Broadcasters.
