HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – This past weekend’s Beaver Creek Jam at the Great Northern Fairgrounds in Havre was a success, according to promoter Ken Erickson.
“I couldn’t tell you how pleased I am. It went almost flawlessly. It was our first year. My only complaint Friday night is we didn’t get new toilet paper in one of the outhouses quite quick enough, which I can live with that. And Saturday night we had a small incident where somebody was getting a little wild and got their beer on somebody else’s girlfriend or wife, and there was a small pushing match. Thanks to (Undersheriff Stan) Martin and the Sheriff’s Department, it was dispersed in very few minutes, it was handled. That was it.”
Between 600-800 people attended the concert on Friday, which featured the headlining band Warrant, with another 400 or so people at the show on Saturday.
Estimates suggest that the cornhole tournament raised between $8,000-$10,000 for the proposed Veteran’s Memorial Campground at Beaver Creek Park. Erickson says the funds will go towards building a bridge to cross the creek.
“It’s only a fraction of what’s needed to do that bridge, but the idea that we’re doing this is out there, and we got a little bit of seed money at least, to get it started. I think it’s what we need.”
Erickson says the hope is for this event to make a comeback next year.
“Everybody that helped me do it says they want to do it again next year. So I guess at this time, (that’s) the plan.”
