HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Early this year, the Beaver Creek Park Board in Havre started looking into alterative ways of managing beavers in the park after their long-time trapper said he can no longer provide that service for free. They have asked Senior Director for Wildlife Response and Policy for the Humane Society, Dave Pauli to come talk to the Board and public about the different beaver management options they have for the Park.
“I’m going to give, kind of an overview of beaver biology and then cover the four or five different ways people try to manage beaver. And then key in on whatever questions or concerns or issues they might have about each of those methods.”
Pauli says that there are consequences from both killing beavers and allowing them to spread in the area.
“My perspective is that we can, I don’t want to use the word communicate, but we can. We can communicate with beavers what trees we will allow to be taken down and what types of water situations, what water levels we want. So, there is the potential, and it’s happening across the country in so many areas, to co-exist with beavers and utilize what they’re doing for us.”
Pauli will talk to the Board and public at noon on Monday in the back room of Wolfer’s Diner. The regular Park Board meeting will be held at 5:30 that night in the Timmons Room of the Hill County Courthouse.
