For the third straight season, the Chinook girls’ basketball team woke up at the state basketball tournament. This time around, Class ‘B’ is playing in Missoula and that is where the Beeters embarked as they took on Florence-Carlton in the opening round on Thursday night.
The Falcons got off to a great start in the game, hitting a buzzer-beater to end the first quarter and led, (17-13). Chinook kept chipping away in the second, getting the deficit to (26-25) at the half.
Brooke Fetter hit a 3-pointer with 5:15 left in the third quarter to give the Lady Beeters the lead. Her takeover commenced from then on as the game flipped to (43-36) in favor of Chinook after three.
Florence-Carlton adjusted in the fourth and made it a nail-biter in the final eight minutes. Alexus Seymour played tough and got key buckets in crunch time to push the Beeters over the top, (57-51).
Fetter led the way with 20 points. Seymour scored 10 and so did Neva Lowe.
Chinook is on to the second semifinal, facing Huntley Project at 8pm on Friday night. The game will be broadcast on KRYK-101.3FM and HiLineToday.com.
