(Billings) – A Billings man is headed to federal prison for smuggling deadly drugs into Montana.
Forty-one-year-old Brian John Schmidt, Junior, was sentenced to eleven years and eight months in prison.Federal prosecutors say Schmidt and two others drove to Denver in 2024 to buy fentanyl and methamphetamine to distribute in Billings.Law enforcement caught the trio during a traffic stop on their return trip, where Schmidt even tried to swallow a bag of fentanyl pills to hide the evidence.
Schmidt’s two co-defendants have also pleaded guilty and will face sentencing later this year.
