CHINOOK, Mont. (NMB) – Blaine County finalized the local results of the 2020 general election with their canvassing on Monday morning.
Blaine County saw 76 percent voter turnout, with 3,171 residents casting a ballot. This is the highest turnout in a general election for Blaine County since at least 1990.
The precinct with the highest turnout was Turner 1-33 at 89%. This precinct is located north of the Fort Belknap Reservation.
Precinct Belknap 3-32 saw the lowest turnout, with 63%. This precinct is located on the Fort Belknap Reservation.
There were no county-level contested races.
However, Blaine County voters residing in House District 32 played a large role in deciding that race, with Democrat Jonathan Windy Boy collecting 706 more votes than Republican G. Bruce Meyers out of 2,006 cast in Blaine County.
Overall, the precincts on the Fort Belknap Reservation had a majority of voters choose Democrats, while all other precincts in Blaine County had a majority of voters choose Republican candidates. This led to statewide Democrat candidates narrowly defeating Republican opponents in Blaine County.

During a County Canvass, local administrators declare elected the individuals having
received the highest number of votes cast for each county-certified office and
proclaim the adoption or rejection of county ballot issues.
Once a canvas is complete, Election Administrators send the results to the Secretary of State. On November 30th, the State Canvass Board is expected to declare the winners of each race.
After that is done, the Secretary of State certifies the election results.
