CHINOOK, Mont. (NMB) – Over the weekend, possible harmful algal blooms were reported in two waterways in south central Blaine County.
Public Health Nurse Jana McPherson-Hauer says that potential algal blooms were spotted at the T-U Reservoir and Cow Creek. Signs have been posted closing these areas to recreation. She says they are waiting for the State of Montana to confirm the presence of cyanobacteria (SY-AN-OH-bacteria), which can cause health concerns for people, pets and livestock.
If you believe you have been exposed to this algae, McPherson-Hauer says the best thing is to wash your skin and eyes. If you believe your animals have consumed some of this water, keep a close eye on them as the early symptoms manifest as GI problems.
