HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – MSU Hill County Extension Agent Colleen Buck says that blister beetles have been found in hay fields in Hill County.
Buck says these beetles have been found not just in alfalfa fields, but also in grass hay fields as well.
These beetles cause blisters when the fluid in their bodies comes into contact with skin or is ingested. They mainly affect horses fed hay containing blister beetles, but they can be toxic to other livestock as well.
Monitor fields for black, grey, brown, striped or spotted type of beetles that are up to one inch long.
For more information on monitoring blister beetles, contact the Extension office by phone at 400-2333, or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
