BLM commencing controlled burns starting tomorrow in Lewistown area.

(Lewistown) As previously reported by New Media Broadcasters, the Bureau of Land Management will be conducting controlled burns on the Upper Missouri Breaks National Monument and in the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge.

These activities will commence on Monday, April 29th, and are expected to cover up to 14,374 acres over three weeks, according to a BLM press release.

The burns will occur during daylight hours and be visible for several miles.

BLM says the primary objective of these burns is to foster a more fire-resilient landscape, rejuvenate the growth of native prairie vegetation, reduce accumulated litter, manage efforts for weed control, and enhance wildlife habitat.
