Blue Ponies Repeat As State Champs

It was a tense evening Saturday night in the anticipated rematch between rivals Havre Blue Ponies girls and The Billings Central Rams for the Class A Championship title in Missoula. The Blue Ponies girls’ 2021 title was earned in double overtime against the Rams and in order to defeat them in back to back years Havre would have to overcome losing three match-ups this season to Billing Central. In a low scoring opening quarter Havre led by 10-8.The second quarter was evenly matched with the score knotted up in the last 4 minutes before the half before Havre jumped out ahead, leading at the break, 15 to 14
Near the end of quarter number three the momentum shifted for Havre and the outscored the Rams and ended the frame, 25-20. But not to be deterred the Rams closed the gap with a succession of shots and free throws to try and sweep Havre for the season. In the end, with a tight final score of 37 to 30, Havre would walk away with the 2022 Class A Title in Girl’s basketball in back to back years.
