In a season dominated by talk of a repeat, the Box Elder boys’ basketball team is three wins away from achieving that ultimate goal. New Media Broadcasters caught up with Bears head coach Jeremy MacDonald, who shared what the difference between last year’s team and this year’s team is.
“We’ve developed some experience playing in some big games in the last two seasons,” MacDonald said. “That’s probably been the biggest change is just (being) a more veteran club.”
“We’ve been in all types of different situations,” MacDonald continued. “I think that experience is paying off right now. Our team is starting to play some of their best basketball.”
The Bears will look to cap off the perfect season at the State ‘C’ tournament in Butte this week. He said what it will take to get it done as the team tries to look in front as far as they can.
“We talk about having a big mission as a team and obviously our big mission is to try and win another state championship,” MacDonald said. “But we don’t play for that.”
“We’ll have, hopefully, one night where we get that opportunity, but we’ve got a lot of work to do to get to that situation,” MacDonald continued.
“There (are) some real nice ballclubs around the state, but we’ve just got to focus on the task at hand and then hopefully things will work out for themselves,” MacDonald said.
No. 1 Northern seed Box Elder (23-0) plays No. 2 Southern seed Terry (20-4) at noon on Thursday in the opening round of the MHSA State Class ‘C’ boys basketball tournament. That game, as well as the rest of the Bears’ contests, will be broadcast on KPQX-92.5FM and HiLineToday.com.
