The Box Elder football team continued to reap the benefits of a state championship. The community had a dinner this past Tuesday night honoring the players and coaches who carried the Bears to their first ever title in football. New Media Broadcasters got to talk with two of the star players, All-Conference and All-State performers and seniors Tuarie Stiffarm-Rosette and Tracen Jilot.
Stiffarm-Rosette still hasn’t let the moment sink in that his team clinched another title. He also shared how Jilot going down in the semifinal game of the state playoffs motivated him to throw a state record 11 touchdowns and 673 passing yards in the most important game of the year.
“Looking back, it feels really good,” Stiffarm-Rosette said. “It was such a surreal feeling to me. It just felt so amazing knowing that we accomplished that. It just felt so good at the moment.”
“It still feels good right now, too,” Stiffarm-Rosette continued. “I was really focused because Tracen went down. That’s my brother, so I played for him and all the people that couldn’t be there.”
“(I) just really locked in,” Stiffarm-Rosette said. “I just felt in the zone that game (and) just thought about nothing but football.”
Jillot was hurt for the early parts of the semifinal game and missed the championship, but said he wasn’t nervous at all about being out of those critical junctures and that his guys stepped up when it mattered the most.
“It sucked at first, but I had a lot of trust in my guys,” Jilot said. “Just seeing how hard they worked all year. I had a lot of faith in them.”
Congratulations once again to the Box Elder Bears on an undefeated football season and first state championship in program history.
