HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A Box Elder man has been charged with two felonies after allegedly falsifying unemployment claims and refusing to pay back excess benefits.
Todd P. Wolfchild has been charged with the felonies of theft by common scheme and false claim to public agency by common scheme.
Court documents allege that Wolfchild filed unemployment claims after he was discharged from a full-time job at a local casino in April 2017 after repeatedly not showing up to work, then having voluntarily quit a temporary security job at the same location that October after failing to show up to several assignments.
An investigation from UID found that Wolfchild was disqualified from receiving unemployment insurance. Wolfchild was mailed notices in late 2017 that he had received excess benefits and faced fees for falsifying information.
A UID fraud investigator determined that Wolfchild receives 28 overpayments totaling over $6,200. Wolfchild agreed to make regular payments in January 2018, but never ended up making any payments, and did not make any attempts to contact UID.
Wolfchild’s arraignment is scheduled for February 8th in Hill County District Court.
