Havre, MT – The Havre High Blue Pony girls basketball team exited the East West Tipoff in Dillion on Saturday with a pair of wins to improve to 6-0.
The Ponies defeated Frenchtown soundly 51-35.
“Frenchtown started out pretty good. we got ourselves into a bit of foul trouble and Frenchtown went on a little run in that second quarter to kind of tighten the score. Then we came out and executed well and went on a run of our own to kind of extend that lead. I thought our defense and rebounding helped us control the game. Once we got the lead we didn’t fault and we ended up with a win.” Head of the Blue Ponies Tommy Brown said about the Friday game.
Coach Brown continued saying just how hard of a game was played by his team in their 41-40 win over BigFork late Saturday morning.
“Bigfork we were battling a couple of injuries. I had some young kids step up for us Olivia Keller and Chloe Harber are the two to mention that rally had to play an increased role. We got down early against them. Went into halftime and made some adjustments. Kid’s fought like hell and got ourselves back in the game and it ended up with a Chloe Harber buzzer beater to win the game.”
Amaya Jarvis led the ponies in scoring through both games with a combined 36 points including 20 against BigFork.
Next up Havre High Blue Pony girls’ basketball will play in their home opener against Browning Friday January 2.
