(Bozeman)- Forest Service fire crews will be continuing to burn debris piles throughout the winter, with bigger machine piles starting as early as November 16th.
Limited trail closures are possible immediately adjacent to any large pile burning. Trail closures are expected to be brief, lasting approximately one day to allow for safe burning and proper smoke dispersal.
The Bozeman District Ranger Corey Lewellen says, “I recognize the concern and sensitivity as it relates to prescribed fire. When looking at pile burning and prescribed fire, we factor in the weather conditions, fuel conditions, smoke dispersal, and much more striving to do the best job we can to minimize impacts to the community. I greatly appreciate the community’s patience as we work to reduce fuel loading adjacent to the Gallatin Valley.”
