(NMB) It’s a busy week for the MSU Northern Lights Wrestling team. It Starts on Wednesday night with the first of two duals against the University of Providence in the Armory gym. New Media Broadcasters caught up with Lights Head Coach Tyson Thivierge and he says the focus ahead of the Providence dual has been getting mentally ready, building some consistency and controlling the center of the mat.
“We’re really working with these guys scoring bonus points. The new three point take down rule has changed the game a little bit. It’s changed strategies. Again, it falls back on finding consistency, getting momentum in our favor, controlling the center of the mat, controlling the ties, wrestling our matches, not theirs. It’s a stressful week but it’s just the start of a fun season.”-Thivierge
After the Providence dual the Lights will head to Des Moines Iowa for the Grand View open on Saturday. Coach Thivierge knows it will be a tough tournament, but an opportunity to get more mat time and see a lot of the Cascade Conference Schools.
“We’re taking our ones and a few of our two’s. We’re going over to find out who’s ready to Battle and really kind of get banged up. It’s going to be a tough weekend, there’s a lot of school’s there, we’re seeing a lot of our cascade conference schools there. But getting that crossover is going to be very important.”-Thivierge
The Lights have just one dual in the books so far this year, a 21 to 20 victory over North Idaho College back on October 28th.
The MSU Northern Providence dual in the Armory Gym gets underway at 7pm on Wednesday Night.
