HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – CASA of Hill County is looking for volunteers interested in becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children in foster care.
Executive Director Chamene Plum says they currently have 13 advocates, well short of the 20 to 25 she says would be ideal.
“That way, we would make sure that every child that came into care would get an advocate right away. They wouldn’t have to wait for a volunteer advocate to be available.”
Plum says advocates play an important role in ensuring children don’t get lost in the shuffle of the court system.
“The court advocates visit with the child, they visit with their placement, which could be family or foster placement. They visit with school teachers, doctors, daycare providers, and just make sure the children are getting the best care that they can get.”
Informational sessions are scheduled on Wednesday, February 12 at 1 and 6 PM and on Tuesday, February 25 at 10 AM for those interested in becoming an advocate. These sessions will be held at the HRDC Garden Side Room, 2229 5th Avenue in Havre.
