Census Bureau Releases Statistics

HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – The U.S. Census Bureau released detailed population statistics on Thursday which showed Montana’s population grew 10 percent over the last decade.

Reservation areas grew by five percent overall, with Fort Belknap seeing the greatest percentage increase, with 19 percent.

38 of Montana’s counties saw growth over the last decade, but Liberty County saw a 16 percent population decline, the largest by percentage in the state.

The population of Hill County increased by 1.3 percent to 16,309, while the population of Havre rose by 0.6 percent to 9,362.

This data will be used by Montana’s Districting and Apportionment Commission to draw legislative districts. It is also used by the federal government, agencies and businesses to allocated funding.
