Child Killed in Lewistown House Fire

LEWISTOWN, Mont. (NMB) – The Lewistown Police Department has announced that a three-year-old girl was killed in a residential fire on Thursday.

A press release says at around 1:30 PM, an on-duty Lewistown Fireman reported smoke coming from a trailer home located in the 300 block of West Water Street.

Lewistown Police immediately arrived and observed flames coming from inside the residence. Officers observed an adult female standing outside the residence. She reported that her daughter was still inside.

First responders were unable to enter the residence due to the fire. Once first responders were able to extinguish it, emergency responders entered the residence and located the deceased child.

The mother was transported to a local emergency room and treated for injuries. One Lewistown Police Officer received treatment for minor injuries received when attempting to rescue the child. The officer has since been discharged.

A joint investigation into the incident is being conducted by numerous law enforcement agencies, including the State Fire Marshal.
