(Kelly Korsbeck) – The Chinook basketball season started strong for both the boys and girls, as they picked up conference victories in Cut Bank Friday night.
In the opener, the Sugarbeeter boys started off big, coming off a 21-11 first quarter to round out the first half ahead 34-18. Chinook kept the pressure on the Wolves, ending the third period up 43-23, and charging ahead to a 65-30 Beeter win.
Scoring was led by Carson Nissen with 17 points, Jameson Nordboe dropped 13, and Ryan Bell and Britt Powell each contributed 11 points.
The ladies then took the court, which saw the Beeters lead at the end of one 17-11. A closely contested second quarter saw the Lady Beeters get trimmed to a 24-19 advantage into halftime. Cut Bank managed to take a momentary lead in the third before Chinook surged to a 41-31 lead to end the period. Not looking back again, the Beeters picked up win number one on the season 64-37.
Hannah Schoen had the hot hand for Chinook, with 23 points on the night. Alexus Seymour joined her in double figures with 15.
Chinook now prepares for the 2024 Coyote Classic in Shelby next weekend, starting the tournament off against the Eureka Lions on Friday. Boys tip off at 9am, followed up by the girls around 10:30am.
