Chinook Boys’ Basketball Continues with New Coach

The Chinook boys’ basketball team has a new head coach, Bill Bell. Bell has familiarity with the roster he is inheriting as he has coached in both the elementary and junior high ranks. Bell told New Media Broadcasters how the opportunity to move up to Chinook High School came to be.

“It came about after the recent resignation of coach Chad Jones,” Bell said. “Sometime this summer, he resigned (due to) family commitments.”

“I have been coaching the 9C, which is fifth and sixth grade (and) doing the junior high boys’ basketball. This will be my third year of doing that,” Bell continued. “I thought it would be my opportunity to put my name in the hat and see what I could do.”

When asked about the first day of practice on Thursday, coach Bell compared the team he is shaping up to the 2023 Chinook football team, which relied heavily on underclassmen.

“We’re kind of open. We have three returning starters, so we’re hoping that they will fill that void of leadership,” Bell said. “Just like the football program, we will be leaning on some of our younger players to step in and fill roles that have been vacated by players that have graduated.”

Stay tuned for an updated story next week as coach Bell breaks down his roster a little more in depth.
