The Chinook boys’ basketball team is set to open the 2023-24 season. New Media Broadcasters spoke with head coach Bill Bell and he said what the team had been doing throughout the month of November to get ready.
“A lot of team drills (and) a lot of individual drills to put the varsity players where they’re going to be,” Bell said. “We’ve lost some players from last year and they’re learning a new system this year for me.”
“We’re just trying to find and put together the best combination of players that we have,” Bell continued.
Chinook will be on the road to face Choteau. Coach Bell said that both of the teams that will take the court went through rough stretches last season and that it’s time for a new slate. He also pointed out where the Beeters will match up the best with the Bulldogs.
“(Choteau) was a young team,” Bell said. “I think their big man was an eighth grader last year, so he’ll be a little bit bigger (and) a little bit stronger. Our center is a senior, so we should match up well against him.”
“I don’t know that (last year’s) record was reflective of the talent that they have there,” Bell continued. “We’re hoping that the talent that we have amassed this year is not reflective from last year’s record either, so that’s what we’re hoping.”
