The Chinook boys’ basketball team is coming off of a weekend tournament where they were swept by opponents Eureka and Shelby. Beeters coach Bill Bell spoke with New Media broadcasters and said the team’s best shot at winning was Day one against Eureka.
“I thought we played very well against them,” Bell said. “Our rebounding wasn’t on very well and a few of our shots didn’t fall, otherwise we were right in that game all the way to the end. It just didn’t turn out the way we had hoped.”
The irony in playing in the Shelby tournament is that the Sugarbeeters are going to be taking on the Coyotes again this weekend. Saturday night’s game will be against the same team that they lost to, (68-42) one week earlier.
Bell said that his squad wasn’t ready for the defense that Shelby played against them last week and that has been a point of emphasis heading into Saturday.
“We’ve got to adjust to their 1-3-1 zone sooner,” Bell said. “Our boys weren’t able to adjust quick enough on offense and that really impacted what we were able to do. We’re working on that this week going into it.”
Coach Bell said people in the community have been waiting for months to see both his team and the girls’ team play basketball.
“I think our fans have been waiting since the end of last season to see not only us, but the (Chinook girls’) play again in front of the home crowd,” Bell said. “It should be full because the girls have been playing really well to open up the season and I expect the boys to play better this weekend.”
“We’ve got a lot of hometown fans that should be there and get this place pretty loud,” Bell continued.
The Chinook boys’ tip off with Shelby after the girls’ game, which will be around 5:30pm on Saturday night. Listen to the game on Sunny 101.3FM-KRYK with Kyle Leeds calling the action.
