The Chinook Sugarbeeters fell to the Belt Huskies in the season opener on Friday night, losing at home by the final score of (46-8).
The game started out slow for the home team, punting twice as well as allowing a 45-yard touchdown run by Tucker LaPlaunt. After a turnover on downs by the Beeters, Belt scored again, this time on a TD run of 35 yards by starting quarterback Declan Bergstrom to make it (14-0) at the 7:19 mark of the first quarter.
Chinook’s only score of the night came on a Ryan Bell pass that found Carson Nissen, who took it to the house for a 43-yard score. From there, it was all Belt, wrapping up a five touchdowns in six possessions stretch to close out the half.
Chinook had multiple chances to score, but no matter how far the drive got, the penalties added up and put the Beeters in a weak position to counter throughout the second half. They also coughed up the ball multiple times. Bergstrom put the game away for good at the 10:57 mark of the fourth quarter with his third rushing touchdown of the game to put the contest at its final score.
Chinook (0-1) will hit the road for the first time this season next Friday night with a trip to Cascade. Coverage will start around 7pm with Kyle Leeds calling the game for New Media Broadcasters on KRYK 101.3FM and HiLineToday.com.
