Chinook Football Opening 2023 Season On Road

The Chinook Sugarbeeters football team is playing its season opener on Friday against Culbertson, which is a rematch of the opening game from last season. The Sugarbeeters won that contest at home, (38-32). New Media Broadcasters spoke with coach Mike Jones and he previewed the game for the listeners.

“(Culbertson is) strong (and) physical. Those kids hit the weight room quite a bit,” Jones said. “Last year, they liked to run the ball.”

“(Their) young quarterback throughout the season got confident with his arms and legs, so I forsee them trying to be more balanced than they have ever been in terms of running the ball between the guards or tight ends,” Jones continued. “Maybe (they) will try to spread us out and let that quarterback stacked. He’s a heck of an athlete, so they’re going to try to get him into space and try to creat some opportunities there.”

Coach Jones gave New Media Broadcasters a broad view of how the team is looking given the fact that the senior class from last season has graduated.

“(We’re) young on the line. We’re trying to find some linemen,” Jones said. “Quarterback wise and those skill positions (also).”

“We lost a big senior class. Pretty much everything is up for grabs,” Jones continued. “Those guys were played for quite a few years, so these guys coming in are getting some good experience this year. (We’re) looking pretty much everywhere across the board to fill in those spots.”
