The Chinook Sugarbeeters defeated the Harlem Wildcats by the final score of (58-26) on Thursday night in the home opener at Hoon Field. The Beeters gave up touchdowns on their first two defensive drives of the game, but answered back with a 65-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Kohen Sullivan with 9:19 to go in the first quarter.
It was all Chinook after that when the game got broken open on a 25-yard touchdown pass from freshman Ryan Bell to Sullivan to put the Sugarbeeters up (16-12). Bell accounted for two passing touchdowns and two rushing scores in the Beeters’ seven-touchdown output.
Chinook scored on its next two drives and were able to punish the Wildcats on the defensive side of the ball as well with a safety as well as back-to-back interceptions that turned into 16 Sugarbeeters’ points.
The Beeters were able to utilize their young core and get even more of their underclassman playing time as the game went along. At one point, there was a running clock with the Beeters up 58-18. Chinook will next face Fort Benton next Friday night for homecoming. It will be a 7pm kickoff and it’s a game that can be heard on KRYK 101.3 FM.
