Chinook football provided a slugfest of a game last week against Seeley-Swan, defeated the powerhouse Blackhawks, (20-14). The wire-to-wire victory for head coach Mike Jones’ team was a testament to the defense not only that game, but in this recent stretch, as he told New Media Broadcasters.
“I think our defense has played pretty well the last few weeks, regardless of opponent,” Jones said. “Top to bottom, they pride themselves on getting better defensively.”
“We talked about swarming to the football and making sure we do our assignments,” Jones continued. “I think they really took that and ran with it.”
“I really like our defensive performance that showed up in Seeley-Swan,” Jones said. “It was great.”
With the Montana Teachers Convention taking place this week, the Sugarbeeters moved their football game up to Wednesday night as they’ll host Simms. Even though playoff positioning is in a firm grasp, coach Jones said it’ll be like any other week, no matter the opponent.
“It doesn’t matter what the team is. We’re preparing to execute properly,” Jones said. “I told the boys all the time, it doesn’t matter what a team’s record is.”
“(The teams are) going to show up on game night and they can do some things as we’ve seen across the state,” Jones continued. “Any given week, any team can lose or pull the upset.”
“We’re focusing on the job at hand and making sure that we take every team for what they’re worth and not taking any team for granted,” Jones said.
