Lady Sugarbeeters basketball played the District 1B tournament final against Fairfield on Saturday night. Chinook got the last laugh and was able to knock off the No. 1 seed when it mattered most, coming from behind to win, (44-41).
Unlike the last two contests, the Lady Beeters took the lead after 1, (14-11) and put up some offense to start the outing. Fairfield went on a (10-3) run in the entirety of the second quarter, heading into halftime as it was (21-17) after the first 16 minutes. The offensive continued to be an issue as Chinook only managed four points in the third quarter to find themselves down by nine, (30-21). The Lady Beeters bounced back in a big way and took the lead with under three minutes to go, (38-36). Brooke Fetter (14 points) knocked down a 3-pointer and Neva Lowe (5 points) hit a clutch layup to become district champions. Hannah Schoen also scored 14 in the win.
Chinook will be the No. 1 seed out of the 1B and faces 2B’s No. 4 seed in Harlem for the opening round of action at the Northern ‘B’ basketball tournament, which starts on Thursday from Malta.
