With prep sports wrapping up its fall seasons, the winter sports are starting to take shape. It’s no different at Chinook High School, where the girls’ basketball team will have a new head coach, but a familiar face.
Mike Seymour takes over the helm after being around the program. Before he came on as an assistant with the girls’ program, he was the Beeters boys’ head coach for over a decade. Seymour spoke with New Media Broadcasters and said how this arraignment came to be.
“I was the assistant coach under coach (Mike) Jones for two the last two years and when he resigned last spring, there was an opportunity for me to step in and keep some continuity in the program, so went ahead and went for it,” Seymour said.
Seymour will have the job of overseeing a roster that has already been constructed. They will begin practicing on Thursday with the basics being the first step towards a season-long goal of domination. Coach Seymour speaks to that in more detail.
“The first thing you’re going to talk about (with the team) is the philosophy within the program and where you want the program to go,” Seymour said.
“We have to look at where we’re at as far as numbers,” Seymour continued. “We’re looking at anywhere from 15 and 18 girls playing.”
“We will get after it on Thursday and start formulating defensive philosophy and where we want to progress through the season.” Seymour said.
The Chinook girls’ basketball team opens up play on Dec. 1 at Choteau.
