The Chinook girls’ basketball team has started off their season strong, winning both games they played at the Shelby tournament by a combined 85 points. New Media Broadcasters talked with head coach Mike Seymour and he has emphasized his team’s defensive abilities being key in this good early start.
“I just like how we’re playing hard defensively and getting after it,” Seymour said. “We’ve talked about how we want to take the timing of the other team’s offense away and not let them feel comfortable in what they’re doing.”
“In that Malta game, not only did we (play well defensively), but we played smart basketball too,” Seymour continued. “That is critical for us as well. I was very pleased with the girls’ effort.”
This Saturday will be the next test for the Lady Beeters to try for another victory. Their opponent will be Shelby, which is a team that coach Seymour was able to see while playing at their tournament last weekend. He shared his thoughts on the Coyotes and
“They’re fairly small, but they shoot the three-pointer (well),” Seymour said. “They’re going to get anywhere between 20 and 30 three-pointers up every night.”
‘We’re going to have to come out and defend that three-point line,” Seymour continued. “Maybe we’ll try to push them another step or two off of it.”
“We’re going to play our game,” Seymour said. “Our game is up-tempo. We’re going to press the issue and get after you.”
Chinook’s home opener will be at 4pm for the Lady Beeters against Shelby. That game can be heard on KRYK-101.3FM with Kyle Leeds calling the action.
