CHINOOK, Mont. (NMB) – A Chinook man accused of poaching two bull elk in Blaine County pleaded guilty to seven counts in Blaine County Justice Court on Thursday. The sentencing for Cameron Dow Overcast is set for April 3rd at 9:30 AM.
Court documents say that Overcast was charged with two counts each of wasting a game animal and hunting during a closed season, as well as one count each of hunting from a motor vehicle, unlawful hunting from a public highway, and failure to obtain landowner permission for hunting.
The animals were discovered about two miles north of Cow Creek Reservoir off Lloyd Road on February 14th after Havre Fish, Wildlife and Parks wardens received a tip. Wardens located two large elk and determined that both were shot and left to waste on the hillside on February 11th. After going to the public in search of information, another tip led them to Overcast.
