(Chinook) Chinook schools is facing an upcoming teacher shortage according to Superintendent Fred Hofman, and for some time now the school has been filling vacancies with teachers from overseas, typically those from the Philippines.
Hofman says that the teachers do a great job, but they aren’t a permanent solution.
“Because they get a visa for three years. They get three years. Now they can potentially qualify for an extension and get it for five, but then they have to go back home. That’s why they’re not a permanent solution. They’re only allowed to come over and temporarily teach. That’s through the visa program, it’s not us it’s the US governments visa program. They can only stay for a handful of years and then they have to return overseas, so that’s why they’re not a permanent solution”
