On Tuesday in the final 9-C game and double-header of the 2021 calendar year the Chinook Sugar Beeters hosted the Hays-Lodge Pole Thunderbirds in exhilarating action on the hardwood.
In the girls game, it started out like a sure win for the Thunderbirds until the Beeters turned it around in the third frame, scoring an additional 23 points over Hays-Lodge Pole who only added 5 points at the open of the second half. What looked like a close game turned in to a slam dunk for the hosting team, with a final score of the girl’s game, Chinook 52, Hays-Lodge Pole 43.
In the boy’s half of the program Chinook charged into game play from the whistle. At the end of third quarter Hays Lodge Pole tightened up the score with a seven point gap, challenging a clean sweep for the Beeters. In the final 1.6 seconds of regulation Chinook had one chance to break the tie but both teams found themselves in overtime.
With neither team willing to concede a loss, the Chinook Sugar Beeters pulled out a squeaker in the final ticks of of two overtime segments with a final over the Thunderbirds, Chinook 62, Hays Lodge Pole 59.
