The Chinook Sugarbeeters are playing a Thursday night football game at home against Harlem. New Media Broadcasters spoke with coach Mike Jones and he detailed how he gets his team ready for a short week, having played as recently as Saturday.
“We have to get them rested, some film time, and get them running a little bit to get rid of the soreness,” Jones said. “We just have to hit the ground running, so really what it comes down to is coaches being ready before the kids because we don’t have that extra day or two to help prep the kids or walk through stuff.
“We have to have our stuff in a row so that kids are ready to see what they are going to do and get out there and practice it quick so that we can be ready to execute on Thursday,” Jones continued.
Both Chinook and Harlem come into the game at (0-2). The Wildcats are coming off of their bye week and should be rested and ready to go. Coach Jones said his team doesn’t need to worry about the mentality on the other side of the field, but instead focus on self-preparation.
“We don’t change a lot of stuff week to week, especially on a short week. (We c)ome in and execute the gameplan that we have and from there, the rest will take care of itself,” Jones said. “(We t)ell the kids a lot of the time if we have to get you hyped up, then something is wrong, so you can build yourself up and we’re going to get you the toolsin which to hopefully be successful.”
Harlem and Chinook will kick off at 7pm on Thursday night with Noah Friedman on the call from Hoon Field in Chinook. Tune in on 101.3 FM-KRYK.
