Chinook Sugarbeeter wrestling had a successful 2023-24 campaign, placing three wrestlers at the state tournament (Grace Buck – 4th, Emma Klingaman – 3rd, Walter Schoen – 4th). All three of them return to the mat for this season and plenty more will want to get their names out there. New Media Broadcasters talked with head coach Ben Stroh, who said how he is feeling about the kids he has been coaching all offseason long.
“I’m really excited for this year,” Stroh said. “The last few years, we’ve had a really young team.”
“Most of the kids that have been young these last couple years are about to be juniors,” Stroh continued. “Just the maturity (and) the way their bodies are looking and have developed over the years, over the summer, and through the football season, everything.”
“I have some big, high hopes for them and I’m looking forward to seeing them on the mat just with that extra strength and the extra time they’ve spent over the summer and the open mats,” Stroh said.
The Beeters will begin this season in Havre at their Mixer and Invite. Coach Stroh shared what he would like to see as his team makes the short road trip 20 miles west.
“Like we all preach, most of us coaches here at the beginning part of the year, it’s not about wins and losses,” Stroh said. “I want to see how they compete, what their mindset is on and off the mat, how they’re moving forward.”
“I expect a lot of them probably to take a loss here and there,” Stroh continued. “I want to see how they’ve developed, how they take those losses, and how next week turns out in the practice room.”
Stroh and the Beeters will be at the Havre Mixer and Invitational, which runs from Friday through Saturday.
