There’s a big project underway in Chinook aimed at improving Chinook’s wastewater system. Jeff Ashley the Project Manager for the Wastewater Improvements and Bank Stabilization project explains more.
“So, the wastewater system consists of the sewer mains and the manholes that are in the streets that collect the sewage then route it to the wastewater treatment plant. So, the Waste Water Improvements Project really tackles both those areas. There are some very old sewer mains that were installed in the 1950s or even the 1940s that are in need of repair. We’re replacing about 10,000 feet of that pipe and then the manholes that go along with it, so that’s going to upgrade the sewer collection system. There are also some miscellaneous improvements at both of their sewage lift stations, and then the other major component of the project is at the treatment plant. So, the bank stabilization portion of the project title is dealing with the bank of the milk river, right near the wastewater treatment plant that has been eroding over the past 25 years, and that was really threatening some of the property of the wastewater treatment plant. So, a big part of this project is to stabilize that bank with some rip rap and try to mitigate that erosion.” Jeff Ashley
Jeff continues to explain if the residents of Chinook should expect any disruptions while the project is in progress.
“When they’re replacing some of the piping under the streets, they’ll be tearing up the asphalt and putting new piping in, putting new sewer services in. So, there should be pretty minimal disruption on this project, but I would expect some barricades and some construction equipment.”-Jeff Ashley
