Commissioner Lanier Resigning Effective May 25th

(Havre) – Thursday at the end of the Hill County Commission meeting, Hill County Commissioner Bill Lanier announced he is resigning his position effective May 25th, 2026. Lanier is leaving to work for the Montana Department of Labor and Industry at the Havre Job Service.

The Hill County Democrat Central Committee will now forward three names from Lanier’s District to fill that district’s seat until December 31st, 2026.

Since Lanier is in the second year of his term, Montana Code Annotated specify’s that each party central committee in Hill County will forward one name from Lanier’s district to the Hill County Clerk and Recorder to be placed on the November 2026 General Election Ballot, to serve the remaining four years of Lanier’s six year term.
