District 9C Basketball Tournament 2022: The Ultimate Recap Part 1!

Four days, eight teams, and many exciting games played in the Blue Pony Corral Wednesday, February 18th through Saturday, February 19th. Here are the details from this week’s basketball event.

 

On Wednesday, February 16th, the tournament started out with four boys basketball games throughout the day. Starting at 1pm, The CJI Hawks stomped the Turner Tornadoes 56-19 and advanced to the semifinals. The second game of the day at 2:30pmm, it was the Chinook Sugarbeeters vs the Fort Benton Horns, and the Sugarbeeters broke the Horns of Fort Benton 63-33 and advanced to the semifinals to face off against CJI.

At 6pm was the third game of the tournament, with the Box Elder Bears vs the North Star Knights. The Bears beat the Knights 70-62 to advance to the 2nd Boys’ semifinals match. The last game of Wednesday was at 7:30pm with the Big Sandy Pioneers vs the Hays-Lodgepole Thunderbirds. Big Sandy won against Hays-Lodgepole 90-50 and pioneered on to the other spot of the 2nd Boys’ Semifinal match against Box Elder.

 

On Thursday, February 17th, the second day of the tournament started out with the first round of the Loser Out matches for the boys basketball teams. At 8am, it was Turner vs. Fort Benton, and the Fort Benton Horns swept away the Turner Tornadoes 56-48. Turner was the first team to be beat out, and Fort Benton went on to the 2nd round of the Loser Out matches. The other boys Loser Out match started at 9:30am, with the North Star Knight vs. the Hays-Lodgepole Thunderbirds. The Thunderbirds struck the Knights hard and won 57-51 to advance to the 2nd round of Loser Outs. The North Star Knights were the second team to fall in the tournament.

Starting at 11am was the girls portion of the tournament with the Box Elder Lady Bears taking on the Tuner Lady Tornadoes. The Lady Bears blew the Lady Tornadoes away 66-22, and secured a spot in the semifinals. Next game started at 12:30pm with the Fort Benton Lady Horns vs the North Star Lady Knights. The Lady Knights messed with the proverbial bull of the Lady Horns, as Fort Benton triumphed against North Star 50-31.

Later in the afternoon at 4pm, the CJI Lady Hawks took on the Hays-Lodgepole Lady Thunderbirds. Both teams bared their talons, but the Lady Hawks took down the Lady Thunderbirds 50-31 and CJI got a spot in the semifinals. The last women’s game of the day started at 5:30pm, with the Chinook Lady Sugarbeeters vs the Big Sandy Lady Pioneers. They may not literally beat sugar, but these Lady Sugarbeeters beat the Lady Pioneers 55-49. The Chinook girls basketball team advanced to the semifinals to take on Hays-Lodgepole.

The last two games of Thursday were the boys semifinal matches. 7pm it was the Chinook vs. CJI, with CJI winning the semifinal match over Chinook 60-46. CJI would go on to the Championship game and Chinook go to the 2nd round of Loser Outs. The second semifinal match started at 8:30pm with Box Elder vs. Big Sandy. It was an intense and close match, with Big Sandy winning over Box Elder 74-72 and Big Sandy advancing to the Boys Championship round. Box Elder would go to the 2nd round of Loser Outs.
