(NMB) When the 2025/2026 basketball season starts next winter for our local area teams, the District 9C will look a little different.
This past basketball season there were 15 teams in the East, 18 in the South, 22 in the North and 21 in the West. With the new basketball alignment which
was approved at the MHSA’s annual meeting in January and will take effect for the 2025/2026 school year, there will be 19 teams in the East, 18 in the South, 18
in the North and 19 in the West. New Meda Broadcasters talked to longtime Northstar AD Brian Campbell and he says they talk about realignment all the time but
told us why he believes that it happened at this time.
“I think the reason it got pushed through this time is they realized that there were schools, namely in North Central Montana that were in one division for basketball, say the North and another
division for volleyball and that would be like the South division. So, we had schools that were in more than one division for different activities.”
The District 9C basketball conference will include Big Sandy, Box Elder, Dodson moving over from the East, Hays-Lodgepole,
Northstar and Turner. Longtime 9C member Fort Benton will make the jump to Class B and CJI will now be in the 10C.
Realignment will also affect volleyball and track.
District 9C Volleyball conference: Belt, Big Sandy, Box Elder, Centerville, Hays-Lodgepole, Highwood, Northstar and Turner.
District 9C Track conference: Belt, Big Sandy, Box Elder, Centerville, Dodson, Hays-Lodgepole, Highwood, Northstar and Turner.
