CARDWELL, Mont. (NMB) – The Montana Highway Patrol reports that a 27-year-old Clancy man was killed and four others were injured after the vehicle he was driving struck a moose in Jefferson County on Sunday evening.
The crash is believed to have occurred at 7:50 PM at mile marker 10 of Montana Highway 69. The Clancy man was driving a Pontiac Grand Prix southbound and was unable to avoid a moose that entered the roadway.
After impact, the moose rolled over the top of the vehicle and the interior of the vehicle collided with the driver.
The vehicle came to rest in the northbound lane and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The four other occupants, two adults and two young children, were transported to a local hospital for treatment but were later released.
All passengers were wearing a seatbelt, but it is unclear if the driver was.
The road was dry at the time, and alcohol, drugs or excessive speed are all not suspected factors.
