(Montana FWP) Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks is warning the public against leaving aquarium pets in nearby by streams, ponds or other bodies of water.
FWP says they’ve found two non-native species in on Montana water bodies that were the result of aquarium dumps, one was mystery snails in Flathead Lake, was a Dojo Loach in a small pond that an angler caught fishing.
In a public statement, FWP said “It might seem like a good idea at the time, but dumping an aquarium pet into a lake or river is not good for the pet or for the native wildlife. The pet probably won’t survive, and native wildlife won’t know how to compete with the invasive species.”
