HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – All 100 seats in the Montana State House and 26 of the 50 seats in the State Senate are up for grabs in the 2022 election.
For House District 18, which represents Toole County and portions of Pondera and Glacier, Republican incumbent Llew Jones of Conrad is the only candidate to file so far.
For House District 27, which includes all of Liberty County, most of Chouteau County and parts of Hill County, incumbent Republican Josh Kassmier of Fort Benton is the only candidate to file so far.
For House District 33, which includes large stretches of Hill, Blaine, Phillips and Valley Counties, two candidates have filed. They are Republican incumbent Casey Knudsen of Malta and Democrat Jordan Ophus of North Havre.
For Senate District 14, which has an area that includes all of HD 27 plus the city of Havre, Republican incumbent Russ Tempel of Chester filed for re-election on Tuesday.
Candidates have yet to file for numerous other legislative seats representing the Hi-Line, including the House District 28 seat that is currently held by Republican Ed Hill and represents Havre. Other seats without candidates after the first few days of filing include House District 32 (currently held by Democrat Jonathan Windy Boy of Rocky Boy).
Filing for the election opened this past Thursday and will continue through 5PM on March 14th.
The primary will take place on June 7th, while the general election is set for November 8th.
