Expanded Frontier For Lights Football

Havre, MT – The Frontier Conference has expanded to 14 teams and been divided into east and west divisions for the 2025 season.

After the fallout of the NAIA Northstar conference, the Frontier has added former Northstar member teams such as Dakota state, Dickinson State,  Mayville State, Valley City State, and Simpson.

Montana State University – Northern resides in the east division with all four of the previously mention schools. Simpson resides in the west division hailing from California.

Head coach of Lights football at MSU-Northern Jerome Sours spoke about to how he believes it will benefit lights football and the Frontier conference.

“I think it’s great for the diversity of the conference , and you know you see conferences in todays world they are growing larger in numbers for stability.” Sours said. “I Think that helps us, adding the Northstar brothers to this conference is logical, makes a lot of sense and I think it’s a good move for us. we are excited that there is some new opponents to play.”

Lights football kicks off the season in just two weeks at 1p.m. from Tillman Field on Saturday August 30, against Carrol College.
