Expanded Frontier Schedule, good for Skylight Volleyball

Havre, MT – The 2025 athletics season was a big change for Montana State University-Northern sports with the expansion of the Frontier conference. That change was questioned by some, but for Skylight volleyball head coach Jerry Wagner embraced it.

“I don’t want to see on thing different. The group I had last year, and I kept talking about how this is a special team here, so we tackled that conference. It was brand new, but I loved every minute of it.” Wagner told New Media Broadcaster Sports (NMB Sports).

” I loved being in the middle and having to go an equal distance each way. I liked going to new places. I liked playing teams home and away one time instead of the unbalanced schedule. There wasn’t thing that didn’t have me fired up all the time, and it was just fresh. Every week was fresh and motivating to prepare your team. There wasn’t one downside to me.”

In 2025 Skylight volleyball finished with a 15-7 conference record and ended the year with a close loss to nationally ranked Bellevue University in the Frontier Conference tournament semifinals.

Coach Wagner and his team will open up their season on Thursday August 20, against Williams Baptist College in Butte.

The Skylights home opener at Armory Gym will take place Wednesday September 9, against the reigning Frontier Conference Champion Providence Argos at 7p.m.
