FALSE ALARM: Billings PD says MSUB active shooter situation was an “error”

(Billings) At 9:05 am Tuesday, Montana State University Billings sent a message to its emergency notification website saying “At approximately 8:46 a.m. University Police received an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers that a student believed to be enrolled at the university had made threats online of committing a shooting.”

The Billings Police Department responded to this incident along with MSUB Officers and Yellowstone County Sheriff Deputies, and announced via social media that they “determined this was an error in the messaging system and there is NO active shooter, there are no injuries, and there does not appear to be an onsite threat.”

The individual who was reported as making the online threat was not on campus at any point in time, and was reported to be detained off campus.
